TweetDeck and the iPhone

Posted on | June 18, 2009 | No Comments

Updated to the new Tweetdeck which now lets you sync to the iPhone version of TweetDeck. Very cool but I forgot to update my twitter username (I changed it) on my computer before upgrading so I lost the groups I had already made in previous versions of TweetDeck. I did little snooping around and I found the old tweetdeck db file in library/pref/tweetdeck so I just renamed it to my new username and problem solved.

A Safari on your desktop

Posted on | February 18, 2009 | No Comments

I don’t know about you but I’ve always wanted to go on safari but have never gotten the opportunity.  Well now you can go on a live safari with the help of www.wildearth.tv and your computer.  They stream live video daily from the Dejuma Game Reserve in South Africa.  Amazing quality video feed directly from a jeep in the field.  Today they came across leopard family, a mom and her cubs in a tree.  It was just an amazing site, live from the other side of the world. If you use twitter then you should follow @wildearth to get updates of when they are streaming and what they’re seeing.  WildEarth.TV

Great video of Louis CK on

A great video of Louis CK on Conan talking about how amazing life is and how we take it for granted. Best line, “you’re in a chair, in the air”.

A-Rod

Posted on | February 8, 2009 | No Comments

What are the odds A-Rod goes down the “I only did it the one time” path or the “it was a false positive” path. As one of the most image conscious athletes in sports today, this is a major blow. I’m no fan of the Yankees but I truly hope he takes the high road and apologizes quickly. He must have learned something from the Clemons mess, right?

It has always seemed clear to me who’s doing HGH or steroids. I was a huge Yankee fan growing up in NY until Thurman Munson died, that crushed me. As a kid I thought Reggie Jackson was the strongest man in the world. He was built like a brick wall and when he got up to bat you could tell he was using all his strength to hit the ball over the wall. Reggie only hit 40+ HR’s twice in his 20 year career, ARod has already hit 40+ HR’s 8 time in 14 years. How often did you see Reggie just reach out over the plate (off balance) and flick his bat at the ball to get a home run. For the past 10 years or so it seems to me that more guys are hitting HR’s off balance, with just there hands then ever before. Come on!

HGH and Steroids are a fact of sports and a large majority of athletes use or have used them. It was well known that pitchers were the first big user’s of steroids in order to heal faster between starts. Currently there’s no test for HGH so you can be sure it’s the drug of choice in all sports. Face it, a 40 HR season will get you paid, at least by the Yankees.

Amazing panorama of inauguration

Posted on | February 5, 2009 | No Comments

inaugurationThis is a remarkable panorama of the inauguration. It might not work well with a dial-up modem, but you can actually focus in on faces near the back of the crowd – nearly 1/2 mile!

For fun, focus on Obama (center stage) and then look behind him. There’s Clarence Thomas seemingly asleep, Dick Cheney in his wheelchair,Clinton, Gore, Bush 41 and even Dan Quayle!
Scalia is sitting there looking like the Grand Inquisitor. The clarity is amazing!

The technology is truly amazing- and it’s un-classified! Imagine what our spy agencies can see with classified technology!!!

Check it outhere.

When everyone buys in.

Posted on | December 16, 2008 | No Comments

I read a story today about a local high school that was determined to improve there FCAT grade. The FCAT is a standardized test mandated by the state of Florida. The results of this test are supposed to show learning gains made by students at the school. Schools are graded from A to F, you don’t want an “F” school. I dislike standardized tests like the FCAT because teachers end up teaching to the test. In this case the both school’s teacher and students decided it was not acceptable to be an F school and together they’re doing something about. Read on…

About the Economy… a Podcast

Posted on | October 6, 2008 | No Comments

This is an easy to understand explanation of what brought us to this dangerous moment in time.  Even if you feel like you understand the trouble our economy is in (and I would bet 95% of Americans don’t) , listen to this podcast.  You owe it to yourself.  Eric

Another Frightening Show About the Economy

Alex Blumberg and NPR’s Adam Davidson—the two guys who reported our Giant Pool of Money episode—are back, in collaboration with the Planet Money podcast. They’ll explain what happened this week, including what regulators could’ve done to prevent this financial crisis from happening in the first place. You can learn more about the daily ins and outs and join the discussion on the Planet Money blog.

Prologue.Host Ira Glass goes to Union Square, a 15-minute subway ride from Wall Street, where it doesn’t look like we’re on the edge of an economic abyss. (3 minutes)

Act One. The Day the Market Died.Alex Blumberg and Adam Davidson recount the 36-hour period, two weeks ago, when the credit markets froze. Plus, what it’s like now for businesses to get short-term loans, and how the hardship is spreading to every sector of the economy. (16 minutes)

Act Two. Out of the Hedges and Into the Woods. One more confusing financial product that’s bringing down the global economy. And one of way to think about this product is this: If bad mortgages got the financial system sick, this next thing you’re about to hear about, helped spread the sickness into an epidemic. These are “credit default swaps.” Alex explains. (19 minutes)

Act Three. Swap Cops.Ira talks with Michael Greenberger, a former commodities regulator, who tells the story of when it was decided not to regulate credit default swaps. And how that decision was emblematic of the way we didn’t regulate a lot of the toxic financial products we’re hearing about now. (8 minutes)

Song: “Bankrupt on Selling,” Modest Mouse

Act Four.  What’s Next? Ira and Adam answer the question: Was the $700 billion bailout bill signed into law today a good idea or a bad one? (10 minutes)

Israel Makes Strong TC50 Showing

by Roi Carthy on September 10, 2008

Israel seems to have been the country with the single biggest foreign contingent at TC50 with no less than 6 of the 50 companies presenting on stage. Some more Israeli startups could be found in the demo pit, the exhibition space and just walking around the venue floor shopping for investors, customers and partners.

Here is a round-up of the 6 Israeli companies that presented on stage:
